M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering¶
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIITG) – Pursuing
The programme emphasises research and development, culminating in a thesis. The curriculum is divided into four semesters with core courses, electives, and a year‑long thesis.
Semester I¶
- CS611: Programming and Data Structures – Advanced data structures (trees, graphs, hash tables) and algorithm design in a high‑level language.
- CS612: Design of Software Systems – Software architecture, design patterns, system modelling (UML), and large‑scale system development. 📘 Full Course Notes
- CS613: Concepts in Cloud Computing – Virtualisation, distributed storage, cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
- CS614: Seminar – Research paper presentations, technical writing, and critical analysis of current literature.
Semester II¶
- CS621: Topics in DBMS – Advanced database concepts: NoSQL, distributed databases, query optimisation, transaction management.
- CS625: Concepts of Algorithms – Algorithmic paradigms (divide & conquer, dynamic programming, greedy), complexity analysis, graph algorithms, NP‑completeness.
- CS633: Machine Learning – Supervised and unsupervised learning, regression, classification, clustering, neural networks, evaluation metrics.
- CS626: Preliminary Thesis – Literature survey and problem formulation for the master’s thesis.
Semester III¶
- CS634: Data Analytics – Data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, visualisation, big data tools (e.g., Python, Pandas, Spark).
- CS622: Elective 1 – Choice of specialised topic (e.g., Computer Vision, NLP, Advanced Networks).
- Elective 2 – Another elective from the departmental list.
- CS700: Thesis – Research work under supervisor, leading to a dissertation.
Semester IV¶
- Elective 3 – Final elective course.
- CS701: Thesis / Internship – Completion of thesis writing and defence, or an industry internship with project report.
Elective offerings vary by semester. Typical electives include: Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Cryptography, Advanced Computer Networks, Distributed Systems, and Image Processing.
